Sensex Surges Over 3,600 Points in Massive Gap-Up Opening as India-US Trade Deal Sparks Euphoria

Indian equity benchmarks exploded higher at the opening bell today, driven by overwhelming investor relief following the announcement of a landmark India-US trade deal late Monday by US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The BSE Sensex opened at 85,323.20, rocketing up 3,656.74 points (+4.48%) from Monday’s close of 81,666.46. The NSE Nifty 50 surged over 1,100–1,200 points in early trade, crossing levels around 26,200–26,300 in pre-open and early sessions, marking one of the sharpest single-day gap-ups in recent memory.
The rally erased much of the recent post-Budget volatility and weakness, with all 30 Sensex constituents trading in the green shortly after opening. Key gainers included export-heavy names like Adani Ports (up 7% early), Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, IndiGo, alongside broad strength in financials, energy, technology, textiles, gems & jewellery, chemicals, and auto ancillaries.
Analysts hailed the pact as a major sentiment booster, removing a persistent overhang that had fueled foreign investor outflows, rupee weakness, and market underperformance versus global peers.
While volatility persists (weekly expiry, global cues), the opening surge reflects broad euphoria and expectations of a multi-asset bull run.
