16th August 2020, Baaghi TV: Day 4 of the 2nd Test between England and Pakistan at Southampton, began on a promising note as the teams finally took to the field after a vastly discouraging Day 3.

Wicketkeeper batsman Muhammad Rizwan departed after raising his overnight total to 72 and England began its first innings. Muhammad Abbas with his seam and deadly accuracy and Shaheen Shah Afridi with his bounce extracted the utmost from the pitch and the overhead conditions. Soon after an edge that didn’t quite carry, Shaheen managed another edge from the bat of Rory Burns, who was troubled during his short stint, this time with success.

What followed was the beginning of an engaging contest between bat and ball, as Dom Sibley and Zak Crawley faced up to the testing challenge presented by the Pakistani bowlers. However, rain and bad light sent off the teams, the Pakistani contingent with visible reluctance, back to the pavilion, and from there to their hotels, in the wake of a torrential downpour.

News of any possibility of a resumption of play before the closing time is awaited and stumps have not been called yet, but the conditions are not encouraging. That combined with the bleak forecast for tomorrow, Day 5, has most likely sealed the fate of this match as a draw. This means Pakistan will most likely approach the third and final test of the series, 1 down.
