Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, Brother of Farooq Abdullah, Passes Away After Brief Illness in Srinagar

IIOJK: Veteran National Conference (NC) leader Dr. Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, younger brother of former Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah and son of Kashmiri stalwart Sheikh Abdullah, died here on Tuesday after a brief illness.

Kamal, a prominent figure in Jammu and Kashmir politics, served as a cabinet minister in the state governments formed in 1983, 1987, and 1996. He represented the Gulmarg constituency in the Legislative Assembly and was also a member of the Legislative Council. As Additional General Secretary of the National Conference, he remained actively involved in party affairs.

Party sources confirmed that Kamal breathed his last at a hospital in Srinagar following a short period of illness. Tributes poured in from across the political spectrum, with leaders recalling his contributions to the region and his unwavering commitment to the National Conference.

Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Kamal’s nephew, are expected to lead the family in paying their last respects. The party is likely to observe mourning and announce details of funeral arrangements shortly.

Kamal’s demise marks the end of an era for the Abdullah political family, which has shaped Kashmir’s politics for decades.
