Sohail Afridi: Pakistan Must Prove Allegations Against Afghanistan
The Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa says that allegations regarding the use of Afghan soil against Pakistan are serious, and the Pakistani government must provide credible evidence to support such claims.
In a meeting, Sohail Afridi stated that Afghanistan shares borders with several other countries, yet none of them have lodged complaints about Afghan territory being used against them.
Sohail Afridi said: “Other countries also share borders with Afghanistan, but they have made no such complaints. If there is a claim that Afghan soil is being used against Pakistan, evidence must be presented. It is the government’s responsibility to do so.”
He also criticized the manner in which Afghan migrants are being expelled from Pakistan, saying that many of those who legally entered the country are working and contributing to Pakistan’s economy, yet they are being deported harshly.
The Chief Minister added: “Those who came legally, who are working and have created employment opportunities for others, are being forcefully and violently expelled. There is a discriminatory approach here between ‘good’ and ‘bad’ Afghans, while policy should be uniform and consistent.”
Meanwhile, several political analysts say that Pakistan’s repeated accusations have seriously strained Kabul-Islamabad relations, and emphasize the need for constructive dialogue to de-escalate tensions.
