A video from the ongoing 2026-27 federal budget session in Pakistan’s National Assembly has gone viral, triggering widespread criticism on social media over the conduct of PML-N Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Tahira Aurangzeb.
In the footage, Tahira Aurangzeb is seen speaking when she begins coughing. She utters the word “sonf” (fennel seeds), reaches into her mouth, removes a small item, and casually throws it onto the floor of the House. The incident has drawn sharp backlash, with many viewers questioning whether the substance was actually naswar rather than fennel seeds.
The clip, showing the lawmaker in a green dupatta, has spread rapidly across social media platforms, prompting heated debate about parliamentary etiquette, hygiene standards, and the dignity of the National Assembly.
As of now, neither Tahira Aurangzeb nor the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has issued any official statement regarding the incident.
Tahira Aurangzeb, who represents a reserved seat from Punjab, is a known active member of the ruling PML-N. The episode occurred during the budget session while the House was discussing key national financial matters.
Social media users have strongly condemned the act, describing it as unbecoming of a parliamentarian and calling for stricter enforcement of decorum and hygiene rules inside the National Assembly.
