Several people were killed and others injured in an explosion that tore through a popular bar in the upscale ski resort town of Crans-Montana early on January 1, 2026, casting a shadow over New Year’s festivities.

The blast occurred shortly after midnight at Le Constellation Bar and Lounge, a trendy venue in the heart of the resort known for its lively atmosphere and central location.

Valais cantonal police confirmed the incident, with spokesman Gaëtan Lathion stating: “There has been an explosion of unknown origin. There are several injured and several dead.”

Emergency services, including helicopters and ambulances, were quickly mobilized. Rescue operations continued into the morning as firefighters battled the ensuing blaze.

Authorities have set up a helpline for concerned relatives: 0848 112 117. A press conference is expected later today to provide further details.

Crans-Montana, a glamorous destination in the Valais Alps popular with international tourists for its panoramic views and extensive ski slopes, was crowded with revelers celebrating the arrival of 2026 when the tragedy unfolded.

The cause of the explosion remains under investigation, with no indications of foul play confirmed at this stage.

This is a developing story. Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and the entire Crans-Montana community.
