Trainer, trainee unhurt as Cessna veers off runway during emergency landing drill at Baramati Airport

A training aircraft of a private flight training organisation veered off the runway at the MADC-operated Baramati Airport, located southeast of Pune city in western Maharashtra, on Sunday afternoon while carrying out an emergency landing exercise.

The four-seater Cessna 172S (registration VT-SEX) was being flown by a trainer pilot and a trainee when the mishap occurred at around 12.35 pm. Both occupants escaped unhurt.

As part of the exercise, the aircraft was required to take off after power was switched off, with the trainee expected to land it. On the second attempt, the brakes failed to engage and the aircraft rolled approximately 20 metres to the right of the runway threshold before coming to a halt.
