Syria: Two bomb explosions struck central Damascus on Tuesday near the hotel where French President Emmanuel Macron had stayed overnight, as he met with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa.

Reports indicate the blasts occurred after Macron had left the hotel for the meeting at the presidential palace. Officials confirmed Macron was not present at the hotel at the time of the explosions and remained safe. His office stated he did not hear the blasts, and the visit proceeded normally.

The explosions took place in a busy area close to the Four Seasons hotel, between the Syrian Tourism Ministry and the national museum. At least 18 people were wounded, including police officers, according to Syrian authorities. Witnesses reported smoke rising from the scene, with emergency services responding quickly.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks. Macron’s visit represents a key diplomatic engagement as one of the first by a Western leader to post-Assad Syria. Investigations into the incidents are underway.
