Lahore, 29th July: The US embassy in Islamabad has handed over 3 million vaccine doses of Moderna to Islamabad on behalf of the American government.

According to details, The American embassy in Islamabad gave more than 3 million doses of Moderna vaccine to the government of Pakistan on Thursday.

As per reports from the US Embassy, Moderna vaccine doses were donated in partnership with the COVAX facility and UNICEF.

The statement by the embassy said that the donation of vaccines is part of the 80 million doses that the US will share with the world in order to facilitate global access to safe and effective vaccines against the pandemic.

Meanwhile, Dr. Faisal Sultan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Health said that Pakistan aims to get 70% population vaccinated by the end of this year.

Pakistan receives 2.5m doses of Moderna vaccine

He added that the country has administered record vaccine jabs to its citizens in the last three days.

According to further details, the consignment of the Moderna vaccine reached Islamabad on July 26, however, it has been officially handed over to the authorities today.

Earlier, Pakistan had received 2.5 million doses of the Moderna vaccine from the US.

US Embassy Chargé d’affaires Angela P Aggeler announced the news on Twitter a while ago. She said, “The three million doses that are handed over to Islamabad are in addition to the 2.5 million doses the United States donated earlier this month to the people of Pakistan.”

She further said, “The United States is proud to partner with @GovtOfPak, COVAX, and @UNICEF_Pakistan to deliver these vaccines directly to the Pakistani people. Together we will fight to end the pandemic. #USPAK #EnduringPartnership @USAIDPakistan.”
