US Launches Fresh Strikes on Iran, Explosions Rock Strategic Port of Bandar Abbas
The United States conducted a new round of precision airstrikes on Iranian military targets Tuesday night, with powerful explosions reported in the key southern port city of Bandar Abbas and surrounding areas along the Strait of Hormuz.
U.S. Central Command confirmed the operation, stating it targeted facilities linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in response to Iranian attacks on commercial vessels transiting the strategically vital waterway. Strikes also hit sites on Qeshm Island, Sirik, and Minab, according to U.S. and Iranian sources.
CENTCOM described the strikes as a “powerful response” intended to impose heavy costs on Iran for what it called repeated violations of a fragile ceasefire agreement. Iranian state media reported multiple blasts in Bandar Abbas, including near the Shahid Haqqani Port and military installations, with air defense systems activated in the region.
Iran has condemned the attacks as aggression, with officials vowing a “decisive response.”
Bandar Abbas serves as Iran’s primary commercial and naval hub on the Persian Gulf, overlooking the Strait of Hormuz, a chokepoint responsible for roughly one-fifth of global oil trade. The port has been targeted in previous exchanges during the 2026 conflict, highlighting its critical role in Iran’s maritime strategy.
The latest escalation comes amid stalled indirect talks between Washington and Tehran in Doha, Qatar, focused on securing shipping lanes and implementing ceasefire terms. Tensions have simmered since broader U.S.-Israeli military operations began earlier this year.
