The planned visit of Venezuelan interim President Delcy Rodríguez to India is unlikely to take place in the near term, as the International Big Cat Alliance summit she was expected to attend faces postponement following the rescheduling of the India-Africa Forum Summit due to an Ebola outbreak in parts of Africa.

The India-Africa Forum Summit, originally scheduled for May 28-31 in New Delhi, was officially postponed on Thursday amid public health concerns stemming from the evolving Ebola situation, particularly in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The decision prioritises the health and safety of participants, with new dates for the summit to be decided through mutual consultations. The Ebola outbreak has seen significant cases and fatalities reported in conflict-affected regions of eastern DRC, prompting broader caution in international gatherings involving African nations.

Rodríguez’s trip was tied to the Big Cat Alliance event. She has visited India multiple times in the past in her previous capacity as Vice President, engaging in discussions on energy cooperation, trade, and bilateral ties. Her visits have also included spiritual trips to sites such as the Sathya Sai Baba ashram.

India-Venezuela relations continue to focus on sectors like oil and gas, with both nations exploring partnerships. Officials have not yet issued an official confirmation regarding the status of Rodríguez’s visit, but the linkage to the postponed summits strongly indicates a delay.
