Edward Gibbs, Chairman of Sotheby’s Middle East and India has said, that the glasses are an “extraordinary example” of jewelry from the 17th Century, Mughal era with their unparalleled craftsmanship and sophisticated design. Additionally, Gibbs has speculated that the unique glasses could only have belonged to either the King or a high-ranking official from the King’s inner circle. According to him, a gemstone of this size would have been brought “straight to the Mughal court”.
