Yusuf Pathan’s In-Laws Beat Mumbai Family with Sticks, Baseball Bat; Three Arrested

India: In a shocking case of road rage, the father-in-law, brother-in-law, and a relative of former Indian cricketer and Trinamool Congress MP Yusuf Pathan were arrested on Monday for allegedly assaulting a man and his family members with bamboo sticks and a baseball bat in Mumbai’s Byculla area.

The incident occurred on Saturday evening around 9 pm when Yusuf Khan (30), a local resident, was driving home. His car reportedly splashed water from a puddle onto Shoaib Khan (35), a relative of Pathan. According to police, Yusuf Khan immediately stopped and apologised, but Shoaib abused him, smashed the car’s windshield with a bamboo stick, and assaulted him on the spot.

Yusuf Khan returned home and, on the advice of his family, decided to approach the police station to file a complaint. While on the way, they encountered another group that included Pathan’s father-in-law, Khalid Khan, his son Umarshad Khan (35), Shoaib Khan, and another accused, Shehbaz Pathan. An argument broke out, and the group allegedly launched a coordinated attack on Yusuf Khan and his relatives using bamboo sticks and a baseball bat.

The victims suffered serious injuries: Yusuf Khan’s brother-in-law, Salman, sustained a fractured hand, while his uncle, Zaki Ahmed, was seriously hurt. Police registered a case based on the complaint, CCTV footage from the area, witness statements, and the recovery of the weapons used in the assault.

Byculla police arrested three of the accused, Khalid Khan, Umarshad Khan, and Shoaib Khan, under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including those for assault and causing grievous hurt. They were produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody till May 2. One accused, Shehbaz Pathan, remains absconding, and police are continuing efforts to trace him.
