The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) has directed the Earthquake Reconstruction & Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA) to complete all the projects under construction by June 2022 and demanded a progress report from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) government.
According to the details, a two-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice (CJ) Gulzar Ahmed heard the suo motu notice on non-construction of schools in the areas affected by the 2005 earthquake in the KPK province. The SCP directed the KPK government to submit a report detailing the students and teachers posted in the constructed schools.
Talking to Chairman ERRA, Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed said that ERRA officers were only receiving salaries and benefits. “If your own children were out of school, then you would work,” he said angrily.

Chairman ERRA told the court that out of 14,000 projects, only 3,000 projects remain to be constructed. Education and health are our top priority. On this, the Chief Justice of the SCP said that if education and health were your priority, the projects would be completed today.
During the hearing, CJ Gulzar Ahmed remarked that schools in the earthquake-hit areas should have been built within a year. During the hearing, Justice Qazi Amin said that earlier the college fee was Rs 8, however, now the fee for a young child is Rs 30,000.
