LOS ANGELES (The Post) — April 24, 2026: Actor and rising musician Simone Ashley, widely recognised for portraying Kate Sharma in the hit Netflix series Bridgerton, has entered a new creative phase with the release of her debut extended play Songs I Wrote in New York, marking her formal transition into music alongside acting.

Released through Abbey Road Recordings, the six-track project introduces audiences to Ashley’s personal songwriting style, blending soul-pop elements with jazz-influenced vocals and reflective storytelling.

Personal Project Rooted in Experience

Ashley described the EP as deeply inspired by her time living in New York while working on upcoming film projects. Speaking about the creative process, she explained: “A lot of these songs were inspired by a summer that I had in New York when I first moved there”, in an interview with Hollywood Authentic.

She added that the experience of filming The Devil Wears Prada 2 played a significant role in shaping the music’s emotional tone: “It was summer in Manhattan, and I was in New York, and I was having the time of my life. That really affected how I wrote the songs.”

The EP runs for just over twenty minutes and features tracks such as “Sublime”, “Free”, and “Tragic Romantic”, which have emerged as early listener favourites across streaming platforms.

Musical Roots and Creative Collaborations

Ashley revealed that her connection to music began long before her acting success. Reflecting on childhood influences, she shared: “When I was a kid, my dad used to play vinyl all the time, just 24/7… I grew up listening to music when I was a baby.”

The project was developed over nearly two years in collaboration with producer Fraser T. Smith and renowned songwriters including Diane Warren and Amy Wadge. Much of the EP’s writing credits belong to Ashley herself, reinforcing the personal nature of the release.

Industry observers note that actors transitioning into music often face scrutiny, yet Ashley’s approach emphasises artistic exploration rather than commercial reinvention.

Expanding Artistic Portfolio

Beyond music, Ashley continues to maintain an active acting schedule. She is expected to return in a future season of Bridgerton while also appearing alongside Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada 2.

Additionally, she has joined the cast of an upcoming comedy produced by A24, further signalling a diversified career path that blends film, television and music.

Ashley has also hinted at potential live performances and a future full-length album, suggesting that music may become a permanent parallel track to her acting career.

For audiences familiar with her dramatic performances, Songs I Wrote in New York offers a more intimate perspective — one shaped by personal experience, musical heritage, and evolving artistic ambition.
