Clean Electricity Performance Program likely to be dropped

The cornerstone climate policy, Clean Electricity Payment Program (CEPP) also regarded as the Democrats’ massive social safety net package, will most likely be dropped from the final budget deal after the pushback from Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia.

“He is not available at the CEPP period. We have been trying,” a democratic aid told the press. The aide further notified that Democrats are trying to forge ways to reassemble the program to fit according to Manchin’s concerns while still completing their goal of reducing greenhouse gas effusions.

“Whatever comes through will not be called the CEPP, but we’re strongly hoping and thinking there will be ways to meet what he wants,” the aide said. Furthermore he stated that If there’s a deal to be made in the next couple of days, he doesn’t think there’s anything that resembles the CEPP in there.”

The New York Times  was the first to hypothesise that this measure will most likely be cut and the project will thereby not be completed. The Democrats had created the package to give the utilities much-needed federal grants so they could increase their share of power from clean and renewable sources and punish those who fail to acquire electricity through clean means.

The CEPP, a budget-based alternative to a clean energy standard, provides incentives for every utility to build more clean electricity to reduce air and water pollution, slash climate emissions, and create local jobs.
