Dr. Birbal Murder Case: Female assistant’s accomplice arrested

KARACHI: Significant progress has been made in the murder of ophthalmologist, Dr. Birbal Genani. According to reports, police have detained a suspect connected with the case.

The person detained by the police is a relative of the late doctor’s assistant. Dr. Genani’s brother suspected the female assistant’s involvement in the murder case and approached the authorities after which the police widened the scope of their investigation.

The doctor was killed near the Lyari Expressway Garden in Karachi. According to reports, Dr. Genani’s brother suspected the injured female assistant of being involved in the murder, a case for which has been registered at the Garden Town police station on the complaint of Dr. Genanis brother. It has been stated in the FIR (First Information Report) that the doctor had an eye clinic on Jeevan street Ram swami, Karachi.

On the other hand, according to a The News report, police have yet to find an exact cause of the murder. On Thursday evening, the slain doctor was driving home accompanied by his nurse, Quratul Ain, when he was shot at by unknown assailants on a motorcycle. The nurse was also reportedly shot in the incident.

According to initial reports, the murder was an incident of target killing. Speaking with The News, the brother of the slain doctor informed the media that his brother had no “enmity with anyone” and was a “benevolent person”.

Upon arrival at Jinnah hospital, after receiving news of the shooting, Dr. Birbal Genani’s brother found the dead body with two bullets to the head. The Garden Town police handed over the body to the family after a postmortem report.
