Governor Punjab warmly welcomed by speaker, members of Scottish Parliament

Lahore: Governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar’s meeting with Scottish Parliament’s speaker Alison Johnstone, Glasgow’s first minister Nicola Sturgeon, Scotland’s Cabinet Secretary for health Hamza Yousaf , Pam Gosal, the first Sikh female member of the Scottish Parliament, and other members of the Scottish Parliament.

Governor Punjab was warmly welcomed by the speaker and other members of Scottish parliament to the Parliament’s gallery. They kept applauding for Governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar. Scottish Parliment’s speaker Alison Johnstone arranged a lunch in the honor of Governor Punjab. Nicola sturgeon assured full cooperation in various fields in Punjab including health and education. Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar invited Nicola Sturgeon to visit Pakistan as well. During the meeting, Peace and stability in Afghanistan, Pakistan’s role for peace in the region including Afghanistan and other issues were discussed.
According to a statement issued from Governor House Lahore, Governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar reached Glasgow In the first phase, during his visit to UK Governor Punjab visited Scottish Parliament along with Scottish Labor Party Leader Anas Sarwar and others. He reached Scottish Parliament and Scottish Parliament’s speaker Alison Johnstone welcomed Governor Punjab. During the meeting, the current situation in Afghanistan, Pak-Glasgow relations, war on terror and other issues were discussed. When Governor Punjab came to the guest gallery to see proceedings of Scottish Parliament, the Speaker along with the First Minister and other members warmly welcomed Governor Punjab. After that Governor Punjab met Sarah Boyack, member of Scottish Parliament. They discussed different issues including Afghanistan’s issue in detail. Governor Punjab briefed her on the steps taken to restore peace in Afghanistan and in other areas, on which Sara Boyack praised Pakistan’s efforts for peace in Afghanistan.
During the visit to Glasgow, Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar also met Pam Gosal, the first Sikh female member of Scottish Parliament. Pam Goshal termed the facilities provided to the Sikh community in Pakistan and especially the Kartarpur corridor project as a sign of great love for the minorities in Pakistan. She said that the Sikh community has always considered Pakistan as its second home and Sikh pilgrims visiting Pakistan always return happy. Governor Punjab, during his visit to Glasgow met the member of Scottish Parliament Alex Cole-Hamilton. In addition to promoting cooperation in various fields, special talks were held on peace and stability in Afghanistan.
Governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar said that during his visit to Glasgow, there have been very successful meetings with the Speaker and other members including the First Minister. “I am happy that everyone is appreciative of Pakistan’s role in bringing peace to Afghanistan and eradicating terrorism. In these meetings, I have emphasized that in the current context, Afghanistan must be helped unconditionally by the world community because If issues like rising inflation and unemployment are not addressed there, then the situation in Afghanistan will not be under anyone’s control and would be catastrophic for the whole world,” he emphasized. He further said that the lack of basic services in Afghanistan, including health care, is a matter of concern for all. He stated that Pakistan has been playing its role for peace and stability in Afghanistan from day one and will continue to do so in the future, adding that the world also needs to adopt rational and sagacious approach towards Afghanistan. Governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar said that Glasgow’s First Minister has assured of cooperation and willingness to work together in various areas including health and education in Punjab. For which we will soon formulate strategies so that matters can move forward, he added.
