GTA 6 Official Gameplay Reveal Showcases Vice City and More

LONDON (The Guardian) — August 28, 2026: Rockstar Games has released the first official extended gameplay look at Grand Theft Auto VI, giving fans a detailed preview of the highly anticipated title ahead of its scheduled November release.
Titled “Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look,” the presentation premiered on Netflix on August 27 before being made available through Rockstar’s official channels. The developer confirmed that the footage was captured entirely from the game running on PlayStation 5.
The extended presentation offers a closer look at the game’s fictional state of Leonida, including Vice City and surrounding areas, while highlighting its two central characters, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos.

Rockstar’s official description says Jason and Lucia become increasingly dependent on each other after an attempted easy score goes wrong, drawing them into a wider criminal conspiracy across Leonida.

The gameplay footage also highlights activities extending beyond the series’ traditional driving and shooting mechanics. Viewers were shown elements including recreational activities, sports, swimming, boating and other ways of interacting with the game’s open world.
The scale and detail of the environment were among the most prominent aspects of the presentation, reinforcing Rockstar’s claim that the new title represents a major evolution of the series. Rockstar describes the extended look as showcasing “the biggest, most immersive evolution of the series yet.”
The presentation arrives after a turbulent week for Rockstar, as alleged GTA 6 footage had circulated online before the official reveal. The unauthorised material prompted legal action by Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company, against services allegedly used to distribute copyrighted material.

The leak controversy did not prevent Rockstar from proceeding with its planned official presentation. The company has now shifted the focus back to authorised footage and the game’s official marketing campaign.

Guardian gaming editor Keza MacDonald said the leaked material had diminished some of the surprise surrounding the presentation.
“It really is a shame that a lot of what was just shown was leaked earlier this week,” MacDonald said.
She also noted that Rockstar’s legal team had been working to remove unauthorised footage from the internet.
The official presentation nevertheless revealed a broader range of activities and environments, something gaming journalist Keith Stuart highlighted in his assessment.

“There’s evidently not exactly a shortage of things to do other than driving and shooting,” Stuart said.
The gameplay also places greater emphasis on the relationship between Jason and Lucia, who are presented as the game’s two playable protagonists. Their partnership appears to be central to the story, with Rockstar describing their relationship as crucial to their efforts to survive the challenges they face across Leonida.

MacDonald noted the significance of Lucia’s role as an active playable character, while cautioning that players should still expect the mature themes and violence associated with the GTA franchise.
The extended look also introduces several supporting characters and groups operating across Leonida, including figures connected to criminal enterprises, music and nightlife.
Rockstar has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI will launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The company has not announced a PC version for the launch.
The official gameplay reveal therefore marks a major step in Rockstar’s promotional campaign for one of the most anticipated video games in years. With the November release date unchanged, attention will now turn to further information about the game’s editions, pre-order content and launch plans.
For players who want to view the footage, Rockstar has made the extended look available through its official GTA 6 website and YouTube channel following its initial Netflix premiere.
