Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused with Josh Horowitz live podcast, the Oscar-winning actor discussed filmmakers she hopes to collaborate with in the future. During the conversation, host Josh Horowitz suggested that Tarantino had shown interest in casting her in his films, a claim Lawrence reacted to with a mix of humour and uncertainty.

Lawrence acknowledged that she had previously been approached by Tarantino for The Hateful Eight but turned down the role of Daisy Domergue, which eventually went to Jennifer Jason Leigh. Tarantino had earlier confirmed that Lawrence was considered for the part but was unavailable due to commitments linked to The Hunger Games franchise.

When the discussion turned to Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood, Lawrence claimed she was initially considered but later sidelined. According to her, the feedback she heard was that she was “not pretty enough” to portray Sharon Tate, a role that ultimately went to Margot Robbie.

The actress also acknowledged that she has repeated this version of events for years and questioned whether it has become part of her own narrative over time. She added that it was also possible that online commentary amplified criticism about her appearance rather than it being an official casting decision.

Prior to the film’s release, Sharon Tate’s sister, Debra Tate, publicly expressed her preference for Margot Robbie in the role, citing physical resemblance and presence. Robbie was eventually cast, while Dakota Fanning portrayed Squeaky Fromme, a character Lawrence was later said to have been considered for.

Tarantino has since stated that although Lawrence read for a different role, the collaboration did not materialise, adding that he holds respect for her as an actor.

Later in the podcast, Lawrence joked about missing out on other high-profile projects, including Twilight, attributing it sarcastically to her looks.

Lawrence’s remarks have reignited conversations around beauty standards in Hollywood and how they continue to shape casting decisions, even for established and critically acclaimed actors.
