Riyadh: Saudi Arabia has adopted Imran Khan’s vision against corruption, on corruption of more than 700 million riyals.

According to reports, Saudi Arabia has adopted the vision of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, against corruption. The accused include government officials, businessmen and foreigners.

Saudi Arabia’s Control and Anti-Corruption Commission (Nizaha) has uncovered more than 700 million riyals of corruption in 889 cases of misuse of government influence and bribery to perform official duties.

According to the Saudi news agency, the corruption involved officials from the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Justice, officials from local councils, traffic officials, customs officials, several Saudi nationals and foreigners.

Sources say that more than 700 million riyals of corruption cases have come on record. Thirteen of these are notable cases, including thirteen government officials of the Riyadh Local Councils involved in the crime, four businessmen and five foreigners living abroad have been arrested. The houses of the accused were raided and 193.6 million riyals were recovered.

Nizaha staff, in another case from an Arab country, caught two citizens red-handed while receiving a check for 1 million riyals in cash and 3 million riyals. The money was being used to award a contract for a ministry project worth 680 million riyals.

In the third case, a former officer of a security agency warehouse has been caught embezzling 1.8 million riyals, while the fourth case, belongs to the customs department. Three citizens of an Arab country were caught giving 850,000 riyals to a customs official. The money was being paid at a border checkpoint to pass contraband material.

In addition, the fifth case belongs to the Ministry of Defense. Four officers and five people belonging to the ministry’s contractor company were arrested, while a former director of the justice ministry has been arrested in the sixth case.

In the seventh case, an official of the Ministry of Transport was arrested on charges of corruption. The eighth case belongs to the Eastern Region.

A former official of a slum, from the local council, was caught embezzling 13.9 million riyals. The ninth case involves the issuance of fake international driving license(s) for Saudi women. Two personnel and two women officers of the traffic department have been arrested in this connection.

The tenth case relates to the Ministry of Manpower and Social Welfare, where an official illegally demanded money to sponsor a copy of a foreigner. The 11th case is from the health department, where an Asian official sold medical equipment to a company for 57.5 thousand riyals.

The twelfth case relates to a municipal official who, in exchange for an official document, took a bribe of fifty thousand riyals from a compatriot. However, the thirteenth case is related to the customs department in which a Saudi citizen and two foreigners were given one lakh riyals to a customs controller for passing clothing containing contraband.
