Lahore Qalandars appoint Shaheen Afridi as captain for PSL 2022

Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Lahore Qalandars has announced the appointment of young fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi as the captain of the team for the seventh edition of PSL.
According to the details, Atif Rana, chief executive officer (CEO) of Lahore Qalandars, held a press conference with Shaheen Shah Afridi in Lahore and formally announced his appointment as captain.
Rana said that Lahore Qalandars are always trying to give a chance to young heroes from their platform, today we are going to take an important step. He said that coach Aqib Javed has done a great job in providing players like Dilbar Hussain, Haris and Sohail Akhtar from the player development program and today I am very happy to announce that our captain is Shaheen Shah Afridi.
Speaking on the occasion, Shaheen Afridi thanked the Lahore Qalandars and the team management for handing over the leadership of the team.
“I always try to show 100% performance and take the team with me. We will have a good journey and we hope that the team will perform well,” Afridi said.

Lahore Qalandars head coach Aqib Javed said that today is a very happy day for me because my thinking has always been to support and guide young boys.
“I have never seen a cricketer grow as fast as Shaheen has established himself as a great bowler and he is not only a great player but he is also a great man,” Javed added.
During the press conference, Shaheen was asked if fast bowlers can be good captains. He said that my four year journey with Lahore Qalandars has been very memorable. I can say to myself that Aqib Javed is our head coach. I have learned a lot from him and besides Hafeez Bhai and I will try to learn with pride.
To a question, he said that Babar Azam is the world number one batsman and good captain but I am trying to get him out this time too.
Shaheen Shah Afridi was part of the Lahore Qalandars for the first time in the 2018 season and since then he has not looked back and is considered the most important pillar of the franchise.

It should be noted that Lahore Qalandars had announced the appointment of Shaheen as the vice-captain before the sixth season of the league played this year while he is the eighth captain of Lahore Qalandars. Shaheen Afridi has been given the leadership in place of Sohail Akhtar, where Sohail Akhtar had led the Qalandars in the previous two seasons.
The Lahore Qalandars had appointed Azhar Ali as the captain for the first edition of the league and Dwayne Bravo was given the leadership during the same event. In the 2017 and 2018 seasons, New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum led the Qalandars, while in the 2019 season, AB de Villiers and Fakhar Zaman also led the team after captain Mohammad Hafeez’s injury.
In the 2020 and 2021 seasons, Sohail Akhtar successfully led the franchise but this year Qalandars announced the appointment of Shaheen as the captain.
