ISLAMABAD: Federal Cabinet approves the Lawyers’ Protection Bill 2023 to be presented in parliament to ensure the protection of legal practitioners in the country. 

On Friday, the Federal Cabinet approved the bill during its meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in Islamabad. Addressing the meeting, the Premier lauded the role of lawyers in the country.

During the meeting, PM Sharif said that a support price of Rs.8,500 was approved per forty kgs of cotton to make the crop profitable for farmers. Likewise, he directed that the security of deposits of SME Bank customers be ensured. The PM said that special care should be taken to return deposits to customers during the winding down process, according to Pakistan Today reports. 

Additionally, on the recommendation of the Finance Ministry, the Cabinet gave ‘ex-post facto’ approval for the SECP (Security and Exchange Commission of Pakistan)’s fifteen bilateral and two multilateral MoUs (memorandum of understanding).

Also, during the meeting, the formation of an inquiry committee was approved under the Extradition Act 1972 for the extradition of Muhammad Wasim Aslam to Saudi Arabia. 

On the other hand, the Federal Cabinet approved the reconstitution of the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee as suggested by the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony. The thirteen-member committee will include Sikh representation from all provinces across Pakistan.
