PIA: PK-785 delayed as only three cabin crew arrived
Flight operation resumed, on Tuesday, after successful negotiations between Pakistan International Airline (PIA) and Pakistan Air Line Pilots Association (PALPA).
The flight operation remained suspended for three days over concerns about the safety of pilots, crew members and passengers in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.
However, today, only three members of PIA employee union, Collective Bargaining Agent (CBA), have arrived for flight number PK-785 to London. According to the sources of Baaghi TV, only the pilot, Capt. Sohail Ahmed, along with two other crew members were present. While, the expected time of departure was supposedly 11:50 am and without any doubt the flight will be delayed.
COVID-19: ‘Baaghi’ PIA pilots putting lives at risk
Last night, while talking to Mubasher Lucman on Khara Sach, they were making tall claims of serving the nation and telling the pilots to serve PIA and the country.
Is this how they will serve PIA? Is this how the pilots and the PIA management will serve the nation? Such a shameful act by the national flag-carrier, PIA.
The Princess and the Pea: A tale of Machiavellian Patriotism
Moreover, present situation at the airport is no less than that. The passengers are being left stranded all across the airport, some of them wearing masks and standing close to each other in groups.
Where is the airport security? Why aren’t they stopping these people to move around in groups? Why can’t the airport security officials maintain strictness on wearing the masks within the airport premises? This is such a disgust.
Can PALPA deny these facts?
Yesterday, tensions eased between the two after Aviation Division secretary assured the stakeholders of full support. Aviation division in order to resolve the grievances of PALPA has allowed the captain to operate flights upon satisfaction regarding the implementation of SOP issued by Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) to avert COVID-19 spread.
Instead of reporting positive you are reporting so negative. You should look at the wording being used. In these times one should commend Pia for going out of the way and without thinking of any economics they are fulfilling their duties. Taking empty aircraft and bringing stranded pakistanis. Why doesn’t one ask AirBlue and Serene to go and do the same thing. When there is money to be made they are in the forefront and when it’s national duty you don’t see them anywhere. میٹھا میٹھا ہپ ہپ کڑوا کڑوا تھو تھو۔ kindly revisit your “Journalsitic Ethics”
Totally agreed. Well said.
No big deal Mr Kamran, please thanks out national carrier for evacuating so many fellow Pakistanis from Tashkent turkey Iraq and the efforts are on going,
You must be one of the Pakistanis with UK passport and since the flight was bound for London you are complaining,
It’s better late than never,
Try getting stuck in a remote place where Pia doesn’t fly you will know the difference.
Please keep your trap shut, why is British airways not taking its citizens back ?
Assalaamu Alaikum.
There is gross misunderstanding among general public about what PALPA is doing and what nation is expecting. It is because people don’t understand the technical aspect of the matter.
I am a Captain in a Private Airline. We are not flying these days and are eager to fly as soon as possible. However, that cannot be done while risking our own lives and of those we love.
An Airliner is a closed compartment in which a significant percentage of air is recirculated. That means most of the air in aircraft is likely to stay there for some time.
Similarly, please don’t forget that while a passenger is likely to teavel once, a pilot might have to do at least 5 to 7 flights in the month, witth an average of at least 7 hours per flight (more on long hauls like UK, Canada). You can calculate how much exposure the Cockpit and Cabin Crew to unhealthy air will have.
This calls for strict and very carefully designed Protection Protocols. I saw the instructions/ guidelines given by PakistanCivil Aviation Authority and also compared it with the guidelines issued by the CAA of some other countries as well. I found the protocol given by our CAA somewhat inadequate. I also pointed it out at certain fora of pilots as well for review and comments as well as to send recommendations to CAA as well.
I hope and pray the latest Protocols agreed by the government and PALPA addresses most of the issues and will minimize dangers for the Flight Crew in operating flights during the pandemic.
I am British born. Me and my kids are here in the uk, were as my husband is stuck in Pakistan Punjab. It is a difficult situation were everyone has to stay safe from the virus. To be honest it is much safer for my husband to isolate there in Pakistan. The travelling process and time length is more dangerous than being stranded in Pakistan. We should all understand each others situation. End of the day although its a PIA Pilot he is still a human being. And same goes for the PIA crew. We should be more patient in these sort of times…. Take the precautions that the govt is asking us to do. Leave the life and death matter in hands of Allah. If its our time to go, we shall go that is one thing which can not be prevented. I have had to do everything myself here, Dragging my son and daughter with me everywhere. So all the above people who are complaining abt being British and stranded in Pakistan if u are human then the people that will be giving you a ride down to the uk are human also with families. Don’t be selfish and think about your selves only. Having a red booklet does not mean u r more human than any other person holding a different colour of booklet. There is a Ahadith that if a crisis like this happens and you are far away from home. Then do not depart back to your home land. Remain there till the crisis is over. And if it happens in another country then do not enter it. And if it happens in your own homeland then don’t leave it. So if you look at it from Islamic prospect. PIA should not be taking headache of driving yous back to ur homeland. Alot of people are stranded its not only you. As long as u are living under a roof and are getting 2 times food to eat ur doing good u not stranded then. Sorry i may sound harsh but that’s reality. We both decided that he would stay there, take precautions, till the matter calms down. In uk and in Pakistan. I can not put his life at risk just to come back here. Insha-allah he will be safe from all calamities…. May Allah Protect Pakistan and all Pakistanis.Ameen.

Mr Asif i can understand the worry you would be in right now for having a loved one stranded in Pakistan or being stranded in Pakistan away from your loved ones at this time of crisis. Tbh it is more dangerous to travel. I would prefer being stranded than having the covid 19 symptoms. There have been a few incidents in which passengers that had test done boarded the plane covid free. After departing the PIA Plane and arriving at London/Manchester Airport thy tested positive. The whole plane including cabin crew members had to be tested and quarantined. There have been a couple more after that. So that’s y i can imagine thy being more precautions. You will just gave to wait. There are lots of people just like you stuck in Pakistan. I hope who ever of yours is stuck in Pakistan. May Allah unite you once again with them ameen.
