News/People/Variety) — June 29, 2026: Hollywood actor Hugh Jackman has opened up about why he continues to gravitate toward morally complex characters, saying that as he has grown older he has become increasingly interested in stories that explore the “grey areas” of human nature.
Speaking during promotional interviews for The Death of Robin Hood, Jackman reflected on the similarities between his latest role and his acclaimed portrayal of Wolverine in Logan (2017). The new film presents an ageing Robin Hood confronting the consequences of a lifetime marked by violence, guilt and personal loss rather than depicting the legendary outlaw as a conventional hero.

“I am fascinated by them,” Jackman told People, explaining his long-standing interest in antihero characters.
Recalling his early cinematic influences, the actor added, “I go back to even Star Wars as a kid, it was, ‘Who’s Han Solo? That’s an interesting character.'” He said such personalities appealed to him because they occupy the moral space between heroism and imperfection.
Jackman noted that The Death of Robin Hood shares thematic similarities with Logan, particularly in its exploration of ageing, regret and redemption.

“There are some definite parallels there,” Jackman said while discussing the emotional journey of Robin Hood and his previous portrayal of Wolverine.

“There’s a beauty to death, to the ending,” Jackman said, adding that portraying a man finally letting go of guilt and pain proved “meditative, calming and really healing.”
