Sarmad Ali Conferred Sitara-i-Imtiaz for Second Time in Recognition of Exemplary Services to Pakistan’s Media Industry

President Asif Ali Zardari has awarded the prestigious Sitara-i-Imtiaz to Senator Sarmad Ali in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the development of Pakistan’s newspaper industry and the growth of media and journalism in the country.

This is the second time Sarmad Ali has received the Sitara-i-Imtiaz. He was first honoured with the same civil award in 2013, also during President Asif Ali Zardari’s tenure, making him one of the rare media personalities to be decorated twice with this honour.

Sarmad Ali currently serves as President of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS). With decades of experience in print media, he has played a key role in media management, advertising, and strengthening the newspaper sector. He is prominently associated with the Jang Group, one of Pakistan’s largest media organisations.

His leadership at APNS has focused on addressing challenges facing the print media industry, including economic pressures and the shift toward digital platforms, while advocating for media freedom and professional journalism standards.

The Sitara-i-Imtiaz is Pakistan’s third-highest civilian award, given to individuals for meritorious services in various fields including journalism, public service, and national development.

Industry leaders and colleagues have congratulated Sarmad Ali on this distinguished recognition, hailing it as a tribute to his lifelong dedication to Pakistan’s media landscape and his efforts in supporting a strong and independent press.
