The character of modern warfare is changing rapidly. The conflicts in Ukraine, the Middle East, and South Asia have demonstrated that unmanned aerial systems (UAS), particularly loitering munitions, are becoming an increasingly important component of modern military strategy. The traditional battlefield, once dominated by expensive fighter aircraft, cruise missiles, and artillery, is now witnessing the growing influence of relatively affordable, precision-guided unmanned platforms.
Against this changing strategic environment, Pakistan's emerging private-sector defense industry deserves serious attention. One noteworthy development is DSS Aerospace, a Lahore-based defense and aerospace company, which is developing a range of indigenous unmanned aerial systems, including its GHAZI Series of loitering munitions.

DSS Aerospace has presented its products internationally, including at the Azerbaijan International Defense Exhibition (ADEX 2026). Its portfolio includes the GHAZI loitering munitions, SALAAR intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) platforms, WARRIOR FPV systems, and AIRLIFT heavy-lifting UAVs.
Understanding the GHAZI Series
The GHAZI family represents an interesting attempt to develop different classes of loitering munitions for varying operational requirements.
According to the manufacturer's published specifications, three platforms currently appear in its product portfolio.
The GHAZI E15 is an electrically powered loitering munition with a declared operational range of up to 80 kilometers and an endurance of 70 minutes. Its manufacturer describes AI-assisted optical guidance, anti-jamming capability, and day-and-night operations among its features.
The GHAZI E25 is another fixed-wing electric platform, with a declared operational range of up to 200 kilometers, endurance of up to three hours, and a payload capacity of five kilograms
The GHAZI EN50 represents a larger, engine-powered platform. DSS Aerospace publishes an operational range of up to 450 kilometers, endurance of 180 minutes, and payload capacity of up to 15 kilograms. Particularly noteworthy is its advertised GNSS-denied capability and autonomous vision mode, addressing one of the major challenges of modern electronic warfare.

These are manufacturer-published figures rather than independently verified operational results. Nevertheless, they demonstrate the ambition behind the GHAZI program.
The GHAZI J200: The Next Development
Perhaps the most interesting prospect is the upcoming GHAZI J200.
DSS Aerospace currently lists the J200 as a system under development. Although detailed technical specifications and operational capabilities have not yet been publicly established, its inclusion in the development program deserves attention.
The significance of J200 will ultimately depend on its engineering maturity, endurance, navigation resilience, production capability, and successful operational testing.
If successfully developed, it could strengthen the GHAZI family and expand the company's contribution to Pakistan's indigenous unmanned defense ecosystem.
Geostrategic Importance in Future Warfare
The importance of loitering munitions extends far beyond their ability to deliver a precision strike. They represent a fundamental change in the economics and philosophy of warfare.
First, they offer a potentially more affordable precision-strike option than conventional missile systems. This allows armed forces to develop greater quantities of expendable aerial assets without depending exclusively on expensive aircraft and sophisticated missile inventories.
Second, modern warfare increasingly depends on electronic resilience. GPS jamming and disruption of communication networks have become significant battlefield challenges. Systems incorporating alternative navigation and autonomous vision technologies could provide greater operational resilience.

Third, loitering munitions are changing the relationship between intelligence and military response. They can combine aerial observation with a strike capability, reducing the traditional separation between identifying a target and responding to it.
For Pakistan, these developments carry particular strategic importance. The regional security environment demands technological preparedness, credible deterrence, and the ability to respond to emerging threats without placing excessive pressure on national defense resources.
Indigenous production also reduces dependence on foreign suppliers, strengthens domestic engineering expertise, and creates opportunities for defense exports.
Pakistan's Opportunity
The development of the GHAZI Series should be viewed within the broader context of Pakistan's defense modernisation.
The Ministry of Defense Production has already recognised the importance of involving private-sector companies in the development of indigenous unmanned systems. Such cooperation between government institutions, armed forces, research organisations, and private manufacturers is essential.
However, unveiling a prototype or publishing technical specifications is only the beginning. The real test lies in independent testing, reliability, electronic warfare resilience, quality control, mass production, and integration into national defense systems.

Pakistan must also establish appropriate safeguards concerning autonomous targeting, civilian protection, and international humanitarian law.
Conclusion
The GHAZI Series is a promising example of Pakistan's growing private-sector participation in advanced defense technology. DSS Aerospace, through its E15, E25, and EN50 platforms, has introduced a family of systems addressing different unmanned strike requirements, while the upcoming J200 represents another development worth watching.
The future of warfare will not be determined by the size of an aircraft or the price of a missile alone. It will increasingly depend on technological innovation, industrial capacity, intelligence integration, and the ability to adapt quickly.
For Pakistan, investing in indigenous drone technology is no longer simply an industrial ambition; it is an important element of long-term strategic preparedness.
