SRK Accused Of ‘Spitting’ At Lata Mangeshkar’s Funeral

Indian actor, film producer, and television personality Shah Rukh Khan’s (SRK) dua and blowing air to the mortal remains during the last rites of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar was criticized by social media users across India.

According to the details, Lata Mangeshkar passed away on the morning of February 6, 2022, at the age of 92 after she was diagnosed with Covid-19. Her last rites were performed with state honours. During Lata Mangeshkar’s last rites, many politicians, players and actors, including Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi, paid homage to the legendary singer according to their respective religious beliefs and offered prayers for her.

Like other personalities, Bollywood king Shah Rukh Khan, according to his beliefs, went to Lata Mangeshkar’s body and prayed for her and blew air to the mortal remains.

However, the touching moment was turned into a controversial one when Twitter users, mostly those belonging to India’s ruling side Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), labelled Khan’s gesture as ‘spitting.’ Most people misunderstood Shah Rukh Khan’s recitation of dua (Islamic prayer invocation) and said that the Bollywood actor spat there in hatred.

However, later several Indian websites, TV channels and social media pages corrected the misconceptions of Indian people by publishing news about SRK and told the public that the actor actually recited the dua and blew air, which some people misunderstood.

Other websites, including Hindustan Times and India Today, also removed the ambiguity of the people by publishing news of Shah Rukh Khan reciting a prayer and blowing.

After criticizing Shah Rukh Khan during Lata Mangeshkar’s last rites, his supporters also tweeted in support of him and his name remained a top trend in India.

This is not the first time that Shah Rukh Khan has been criticized for attending an actor’s funeral. Last year, SRK was also criticized when he attended the last rites of legendary actor Dilip Kumar wearing black glasses.
