Therapy Works comes under scrutiny following Noor Mukadam’s murder
Lahore, 25th July: Therapy Works, a leading therapy and drug rehabilitation center in Islamabad has come under scrutiny after the heinous murder of Noor Mukadam, daughter of an ex-diplomat.
Following the news of the gut-wrenching murder of Noor Mukadam in Islamabad last week, the accused Zahir Jaffer has been associated with a renowned rehabilitation center called Therapy Works.
According to reports, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Muhammed Hamza Shafqat informed on Saturday that Therapy Works will be sealed as the authorities continue the investigation in Noor’s murder.

According to details, Therapy Works is a well-known therapy center in Islamabad, however, many people claim that the organization was built through unethical means. Furthermore, it has falsely claim to be affiliated with an internationally accredited agency.
Soon after the revelation of Noor’s murder and its connection with Therapy Works, several people on social media have come forward to share horrible experiences at the institute.
Some people claimed that they were sedated at the center to their stay would get prolonged to inflate bills. Some have alleged that they were given terrible reviews if they did not follow the instructions of the therapist.

However, one of the serious allegations includes the diplomas given by Therapy Works were not given on merit. It has come under notice that the Center handed out diplomas without the proper procedure of psychiatric evaluation or background checks.
And according to reports, Zahir Jaffer, Noor Mmukadam’s murderer had such a diploma from the Center. It is evident how Therapy Works had given him a diploma as a certified therapist without any background check or previous experiences.
According to a detailed report posted in Geo News, Zahir Jaffer was a certified ‘psychotherapist’ at Therapy Works.

Hence, after Zahir Jaffer’s crime came to light, the organization released a statement on its official Twitter page saying that Zahir had not completed his course and was never allowed to see any clients.

On the other hand, people who had sought counseling at Therapy Works had contradictory opinions.
Furthermore, pictures of the accused Zahir Jaffer are circulating on social media that identify him as a counselor at the organization who also conducted a workshop at Beacon House school in Islamabad in 2019.

Meanwhile, Therapy Works wrote on its Facebook page that “unverified false allegations against Therapy Works are doing rounds on social media by few people, which will now be met by the full force of the law.”
In addition, it has also been revealed that Therapy Works which claim to be accredited by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), is in fact, not a member of the professional association.

While the BACP says it is a body that ensures professionals follow certain standards to protect individuals seeking therapy. BACP announced in a recent tweet that Therapy Works is not affiliated with them in any way.
BACP clarified, “Hi, thanks for bringing this to our attention. We can confirm that this organisation is not a member of BACP, and we have contacted them to ask they remove the BACP logo from their website and other advertising materials.”

Such incidents have raised questions at the credibility of ethical and certified centers in Pakistan. Concerned authorities must take notice and ensure to employ accredited and qualified therapists.
It is pertinent to mention here that Noor Mukadam, who was the daughter of an ex-diplomat was brutally murdered by a renowned businessman Zahir Jaffer in Islamabad last week. The accused was caught from the murder scene under the act of pre-meditated murder.
