Lahore: USA is protecting Indian interests in the region. USA has very cleverly defended india on the annual terrorism report. According to reports the USA continues to hold a fatherly hand over India’s head. As usual, the USA has once again taken India’s side and levelled allegations on Pakistan.
According to Baaghi TV, in the Countries Report on Terrorism 2019 by the US State Department, in matters related to South Asia, America has shown its bias towards India, by giving it a clean chit and accusing Pakistan.
Despite severe measures taken to fulfil FATF requirements, the USA has habitually declared Pakistan’s efforts as “not enough”. This shows that Pakistan has not succeeded in successfully advertising its efforts on the international fora.
On the other hand, instead of declaring Kashmir as a disputed territory, it has been declared a part of India, breaking all international rules and resolutions. USA has used the term union territory for Indian Occupied Kashmir even though it is a disputed territory according to United Nations resolutions. This change in terminology shows that still America believes in India’s claims and rejects Pakistan’s. In this regard, Pakistan also needs to change its strategy.
Some salient points of the report issued by the US State Department that are in reference to Pakistan are as follows:
- Along with major terrorism in Pakistan and Afghanistan, in 2019 in South Asia, such events also happened in Sri Lanka and currently union territory of India Jammu and Kashmir (what Pakistan calls Indian Occupied Kashmir). After a suicide attack on 14th February on the Indian army, Pakistan and India came close to a war.
- Although Daesh has lost territory it captured in Syria by March, it has announced new branches in Pakistan and India and accepted responsibility for the Easter church attacks in Sri Lanka in April. The presence of Al-Qaeda in Pakistan and Afghanistan has considerably reduced.
- A lot of bloody attacks were made in Afghanistan on the part of Daesh Khurasan, Afghan Taliban, and their supporting Haqqani Network. Afghan Defence Department and security forces, along with NATO forces, took strict action against terrorists all over the country.
- At the end of 2019, the Afghan security forces and the Taliban took strict action against Daesh in Nangarhar due to which Daesh now lacks control in any part of the region.
- There has been a significant decrease in terrorism in Pakistan this year. Pakistan’s forces have conducted comprehensive operations against Tehreek i Taliban Pakistan, Daesh Khurasan and Baloch Liberation Army.
- Pakistan has prevented the financial support of terrorist groups, and also further attacks by anti-Indian groups that are like the Pulwama attack associated with Jaish-i-Muhammad.
- Pakistan also charged with crime the members of anti-Indian terrorism groups including Founder Lashkar-i-Taiba Hafiz Saeed and his 12 supporters, on 1st December.
- However, Pakistan remains a haven for Taliban fighting in Afghanistan, the Haqqani Network and anti-Indian groups like Jaish-i-Muhammad and allows them to work.
- Pakistan has still not punished Jaish-i-Muhammad founder Masood Azhar and Project Director of the 2008 Mumbai attacks Sajjad Mir. These two are living freely in Pakistan though the government refutes this.
- However Pakistan has done constructive work for the Afghan Peace Process, for example convincing the Taliban to reduce the number of violent activities in Afghanistan.
- Pakistan has shown some constructive work on the Action Plan to stay out of the FATF Black List but has not fulfilled all requirements of the Action Plan 2019.
- In August 2019 India made changes to the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act 1967, one month after which it declared 4 people as terrorists including Jaish-i-Muhammad and Lashkar-i-Taiba leaders.
- The Indian Parliament also changed the Act of 2008 of the National Crime Agency under which the agency got permission to investigate terrorist activities outside India as well.
- US continues to maintain its strategic partnership with India which includes the 2+2 meeting of ministers in March and then December under the Joint Counter-Terrorism Working Group.
According to sources, the Indian media has done a lot of misrepresentation regarding this report. Their misrepresentations and the actual facts are as follows: Last night the Indian media made a lot of brouhaha that Pakistan has been listed again even though Pakistan was not even in the agenda of this session. Pakistan will be discussed in October. Indian analysts have gleaned from this report that China was leading the Asia Pacific Group which benefited Pakistan. However, now it will be supervised by Germany and that will be a problem for Pakistan.
