Georgina Baillie Urges Russell Brand to Tell the Truth
Brand's former partner calls for accountability after his rape and assault convictions

Key Developments
- Georgina Baillie urges Brand to acknowledge his wrongdoing
- She previously credited him with helping fund her rehabilitation
- Her comments follow his convictions for four sexual offences
LONDON (Daily Mail) — November 06, 2026: Actress Georgina Baillie, whose relationship with Russell Brand became the focus of Britain's infamous Sachsgate broadcasting scandal, has urged the comedian to acknowledge his wrongdoing and make amends following his convictions for rape and sexual assault.
Speaking to Channel 5's 5 News after the verdicts at Southwark Crown Court, Baillie reflected on her complicated history with Brand. Although she had previously defended him and regarded him highly, she said the evidence presented in court had forced her to reconsider her perception of someone she once trusted.

“The most important thing is to admit your mistakes and correct them as much as you can,” Baillie said.
She added: “Now if they've proven that he's done these things... that's what needs to happen. He needs to make amends.”
Baillie's comments carry particular significance because she had previously spoken positively about Brand's support during a difficult period in her life. According to her account, he helped finance her rehabilitation treatment in 2018, an intervention she believes played a crucial role in overcoming her struggles with addiction.
She has described him as someone she once held “on a pedestal” and credited his financial assistance with helping save her life. Reflecting on that period, she said: “I'll be honest, if I didn't go to rehab, then I'd probably be dead. So I owe my life to him for that.”

That personal history has made it difficult for Baillie to reconcile the man she remembers with the findings of the criminal trial. She acknowledged that her previous confidence in her judgement had been shaken, admitting that she had not initially believed Brand capable of the behaviour described by the women who brought allegations against him.

Recalling her reaction when allegations first emerged publicly in 2023, she said: “I just found it really, really tricky to associate him with any form of aggression toward a girl, because he worshipped girls.”
However, she stressed that her personal experiences should not undermine the accounts of other women. “Any woman who has been abused in any way deserves some listening time,” she said, adding that Brand should do the right thing and make amends.
Baillie also acknowledged that it was difficult to abandon the positive image of someone who had once played such an important role in her life. She said she was saddened by the verdicts because she had believed herself to be a better judge of character, while recognising that she could have been mistaken.
Her decision to speak out follows a complicated history with Brand, dating back to the period when their relationship became a subject of national media attention.
In 2008, Brand and television presenter Jonathan Ross left a series of sexually explicit messages on the answering machine of Baillie's grandfather, Andrew Sachs, the late actor best known for playing Manuel in the BBC comedy Fawlty Towers. The messages referred to Brand's sexual relationship with Baillie and were broadcast during a BBC Radio 2 programme.

The incident, which became known as Sachsgate, triggered widespread public outrage, thousands of complaints and criticism from political figures, including then Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The controversy ultimately resulted in serious professional consequences for both Brand and Ross, prompting wider debate about broadcasting standards, celebrity behaviour and the treatment of individuals drawn into public entertainment.
For Baillie, however, the incident was not simply a broadcasting controversy. It involved the public exposure of an intimate aspect of her personal life and caused considerable distress within her family.

Despite the fallout, she maintained a positive view of Brand for years afterwards, particularly because of the assistance he provided during her rehabilitation. When allegations of sexual misconduct against him emerged in 2023, she initially found them difficult to accept. She also agreed to a request from Brand's legal team to provide a statement supporting his defence.

The subsequent criminal trial and guilty verdicts have now prompted her to reassess that position. Her latest comments do not suggest that her past experiences with Brand invalidate the accounts of the complainants. Instead, she has called for the women who came forward to be heard and for Brand to acknowledge the court's findings.
Brand was convicted of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault involving four women. The jury acquitted him of two additional rape charges and one count of attempted indecent assault. He remains in custody ahead of sentencing, while police investigations into two further rape allegations continue.

Baillie's response illustrates the difficult position that former partners, friends and associates can face when someone they remember positively is convicted of serious offences. Her message is that personal gratitude for past support should not prevent accountability or diminish the experiences of those who have reported abuse.
“I really hope that they can find some healing,” she said of the women who came forward. “I just want him to tell the truth.”
