Although this comes as a major win for the versatile director, with four highest-grossing films of all time, Cameron is yet to earn the title of 2025’s highest-grossing film director. According to Entertainment Weekly, this honor remains with Jared Bush and Byron Howard, co-directors for Disney’s animated film, Zootopia 2. The animated sequel is currently sitting at $1.58 billion at the global box office and $363.6 million domestically.

Fire and Ash, on the other hand, is performing notably better than its predecessor Avatar: The Way of Water, which opened in 2022 with a remarkable $134 million. To date, the second installment has brought in $425.4 million domestically.
