
Muzaffarabad: Barrister Sultan Mehmood has been elected President of Azad Kashmir. According to reports, Barrister Sultan Mehmood of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has been elected President with 34 votes.
In the presidential election held in Azad Kashmir today, the united opposition Mian Abdul Waheed won with 16 votes.
Polling has been held for the election of the President of Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly. Barrister Sultan and Mian Abdul Waheed from the PTI were the United Opposition’s presidential candidates. President Masood Khan will complete his five-year term on August 24.
Members of the Legislative Assembly in Muzaffarabad will today elect a president for the next five years. According to the party’s position, Barrister Sultan Mahmood is likely to be easily elected president.
The PTI presidential candidate also has the support of Sardar Atiq of the Muslim Conference and Hassan Ibrahim of the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Party.
In the Legislative Assembly, PTI has 32 votes, Pakistan Peoples Party 11 votes, PML-N 7 votes, All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference, and Jammu and Kashmir People’s Party have one vote each.
Barrister Sultan Mehmood has been elected Member Assembly from LA-3 Mirpur. He will leave the assembly seat after being elected president.
It may be recalled that Barrister Sultan has been the President of PTI Azad Kashmir since 2015. Barrister Sultan has been elected to the Legislative Assembly for the ninth time since 1985.
