PARIS (The Hollywood Reporter) — April 25, 2026: A feature film based on the life and legacy of celebrated French chef Bernard Loiseau is officially in development, bringing renewed global attention to one of France’s most influential culinary figures whose story inspired elements of Pixar’s acclaimed animated film Ratatouille.
The project is being developed by Chi-Fou-Mi Productions in collaboration with Loiseau’s family. French filmmaker Thomas Lilti, known for character-driven dramas exploring professional life and personal identity, has been confirmed as director. Production will also involve Lilti’s company 31 Juin Films alongside Mediawan-affiliated partners.

Loiseau rose to international prominence during the 1980s and 1990s through his three-Michelin-star restaurant La Côte d’Or in Saulieu, Burgundy, transforming the small town into a globally recognised gastronomic destination. His career and personal struggles later inspired the fictional chef Auguste Gusteau in Ratatouille, symbolising both artistic brilliance and the intense pressures associated with culinary prestige.
The restaurant continues operating today under the name Le Relais Bernard Loiseau, overseen by the chef’s family, who are actively supporting the cinematic project.
