Pakistan reports 1,742 coronavirus cases, 39 deaths in 24 hours

A national policy developed during meeting of the National Command & Operation Center (NCOC) pertaining to Corona virus, based on the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO).

The Executive Director of the National Institute of Health briefed the meeting. It was informed in the briefing that, based on the recommendations of the WHO, a national policy on Corona has been prepared, under which it has been decided to start rapid Antigen Testing across the country. Under the procedure, the diagnosis of corona will be possible quickly and efficiently.

All the provinces were consulted for the formulation of a consensus policy. Under this procedure, Corona tests will be conducted in accordance with international standards.

In the first phase, antigen testing will be done in all government hospitals and laboratories. The federation and the provinces are jointly completing preparations for antigen testing.

According to the NCOC, the number of critically ill patients of corona is increasing across the country. Currently, 2,165 patients of Corona are in critical condition. The condition of 467 patients in Punjab, 696 in Sindh, 470 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 17 in Balochistan is critical. The condition of 323 patients in Islamabad, 28 in Azad Kashmir and 3 in Gilgit-Baltistan is critical. There are 282 corona patients on ventilator across the country.

According to the NCOC, Corona is spreading to 15 cities across the country. Eighty percent of corona cases in Pakistan were reported from eleven major cities.

Dr. Faisal Sultan, Special Assistant for Health, said that the second wave of corona virus has gradually started in Pakistan. To deal with the second wave, SOPs will have to be strictly adhered to. By taking precautions we can deal with the second wave of corona.
