Lahore, 10th June: A religious cleric has been arrested in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) for threatening the youngest Pakistani Nobel Prize Winner Malala Yousafzai on her views regarding marriage.
According to reports, a Maulvi in KP’s Lakki Marwat district was arrested for allegedly threatening Malala Yousafzai on her recent comments where she said she doesn’t believe in marriage.
Police in Lakki Marwat district informed that the religious leader Mufti Sardar Ali Haqqani was arrested on Wednesday after an FIR was registered against him under the anti-Terrorism Act.
According to police officials, a video went of the mufti went viral on social media where he was seen instigating people at a gathering in Peshawar to take the law in their hands and attack Malala.
It is said that Mufti Sardar was even armed at the time when the incident happened. The FIR which was filed by SHO Wasim Sajjad Khan also reported that Mufti alleged of attempting a suicide attack on Malala himself whenever she comes to Pakistan.
The speech by the cleric incited violence and lawlessness. It is also reported that the Mufti did not file a complaint in any legal forum and tried to take the law into his hands.
After the FIR got registered, police raided his house and arrested him on Wednesday.
It is to be noted that in her interview with the international fashion magazine Vogue, Malala Yousafzai said that she doesn’t understand why people have to get married.
She added that if one wants to have a person in their life why do they have to sign a paper, why can’t it just be a partnership?
Muslims across the country severely criticized the careless remarks made by Malala.
