LAHORE: Punjab Education Minister Murad Raas has reportedly said that children will not be allowed to come to school without vaccination. Instructions have been issued to all educational institutions in this regard.

Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, Punjab Education Minister Murad Raas said that schools were the last to be discussed at the NCOC meeting. Classes for children under 12 will be with 50% attendance. He added that children under the age of 12, who have not been vaccinated, will not be allowed to attend school.

The education minister said that the schools could not be closed as the children have already suffered a lot thereby, schools are not being closed. The government has greatly increased the capacity of vaccinations. In addition, teachers are 100% vaccinated. Once the vaccination of students from Matric to Inter has been completed, the schools will be permanently open for them. However, the use of masks will be strictly enforced.

Murad Raas further said that the advertisement of 16,000 posts for teachers in the province would come in two months. He added that for the first time in Punjab, the Compulsory Act has been passed. Now it is going to be implemented under which Qur’an Nazra will be recited from class one to five, however, Qur’an will be recited from sixth to twelfth grades with translation.

On the other hand, the NCOC meeting chaired by Federal Minister Asad Omar also decided to keep the educational institutes open. The meeting held in Islamabad was attended by Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood and other education ministers. The meeting agreed to consult on the growing spread of Omicron and to expedite the vaccination process.

The NCOC meeting also reviewed the implementation of SOPs in markets, wedding halls, and crowded places in the country. Consideration has been given to keep the educational institutions open for which a meeting has been reconvened with the latest data.

According to the NCOC, 49,809 corona tests were performed during the last 24-hours meanwhile, the corona positive case rate was reportedly 8.71%. The death toll from Corona has also risen to 29,019 across the country. In addition, the number of Coronavirus cases across the country has risen to 1.328 million. During the last 24-hours, 443 cases of Corona were reported in Islamabad. The rate of corona-positive cases in Islamabad has reached 10.75%.
