PM Shehbaz Sharif seeks Deeper Economic, Agricultural Ties with Saudi Arabia

ISLAMABAD (Radio Pakistan) — August 28, 2026: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called for stronger economic and agricultural cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, with both sides discussing agricultural exports, food security, water management and investment.
The prime minister made the remarks during a meeting with Saudi Minister for Environment, Water and Agriculture Engineer Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al-Fadley at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad on August 28.

Shehbaz said Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, as strategic partners, should focus on “deepening economic and agriculture ties” to develop their longstanding relationship into a stronger and mutually beneficial trade and investment partnership.

The prime minister also expressed satisfaction over ongoing cooperation concerning Pakistan’s agricultural exports to Saudi Arabia. Discussions covered ways to increase agricultural productivity in Pakistan through technology, research and development, as well as more efficient use of water resources.
Shehbaz announced that a delegation of Pakistani agricultural experts would soon travel to Riyadh to continue discussions and explore opportunities for expanding cooperation between the two countries.

The talks followed Saudi Arabia’s preparations for Al-Fadley’s visit, which focused on food production, irrigation and water systems, agricultural and livestock production, food processing and food-security investment. Saudi authorities had said the visit was intended to strengthen cooperation and exchange expertise between the two countries.

The Saudi minister reaffirmed Riyadh’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Pakistan in agriculture, water and food security, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.
The two sides also discussed the broader relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. Shehbaz reaffirmed the countries’ longstanding ties and referred to the recently signed Makkah Joint Defence Agreement involving Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye.

He said the agreement had “brought the three countries even closer together and sent a message of unity and peace throughout the region.”

The meeting comes amid broader efforts by Islamabad and Riyadh to expand their relationship beyond traditional areas of cooperation towards trade, investment, agriculture, food security and other economic sectors. Earlier on August 26, Shehbaz had also met Saudi business leaders to discuss elevating bilateral economic relations into a strategic economic partnership.
