ISLAMABAD (APP) — October 06, 2026: Japan has launched a public competition to select the official logo for the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Pakistan, with the winning design set to represent commemorative activities planned throughout the anniversary year.
The initiative is being organised by Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Tokyo and Islamabad prepare for the milestone. The Japanese government says the anniversary programme will include a series of activities intended to commemorate the longstanding bilateral relationship and further develop ties between the two countries.

The competition is open to citizens of either Japan or Pakistan, with no age or residency restrictions. Applicants can submit an original design from anywhere in the world.
Entries must be sent electronically to the Southwest Asian Division of Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The submission should include the applicant’s name and affiliation along with a separate explanation of the concept behind the proposed logo.

The ministry has specified JPEG, PDF and EPS as acceptable file formats, with submissions required to meet its technical requirements. Applicants are also required to provide both colour and black-and-white versions of their designs.

A key condition of the contest is that submitted artwork must be previously unpublished and must not violate copyright, trademark or other third-party rights. The ministry has also explicitly prohibited the use of generative artificial intelligence in producing entries.
Designs featuring offensive or unlawful material, political or religious promotion, culturally or socially insensitive content, or commercial messaging will not qualify. The guidelines also require entries to be consistent with the purpose of promoting friendly relations between Japan and Pakistan.
The submission deadline is October 23, 2026, while Japan’s Foreign Ministry plans to announce the selected design around late December. The winning entry will be adopted as the official logo for anniversary-related events and activities.

The competition comes as Japan and Pakistan prepare for an expanded programme of bilateral engagement surrounding the anniversary. Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar recently discussed efforts to strengthen bilateral relations ahead of the milestone.
The winning design will be adopted as the official logo for the 75th anniversary and used for events and activities to be held throughout 2027 to mark the milestone. During that meeting, Motegi also expressed Japan’s intention to expand cooperation with Pakistan in the mineral-resources sector, while Dar conveyed Pakistan’s interest in further developing bilateral cooperation.
Japan’s Foreign Ministry has also identified health, sanitation and education among areas in which Japan has supported Pakistan’s development, alongside its stated interest in widening cooperation in new fields.
The anniversary logo competition therefore forms part of a broader programme marking seven and a half decades of formal diplomatic relations, with the selected design expected to feature across official activities connected with the milestone.
