Punjab Seeks Mobile, Internet Service Jamming in Rawalpindi Region on September 27

The Punjab Home Department has formally requested the federal Ministry of Interior to suspend or downgrade mobile and internet services at specified locations in the Rawalpindi region and across Attock district on September 27, 2026, citing an anticipated law-and-order situation.

In a letter marked “Most Immediate” and dated September 21, 2026, Section Officer (Internal Security-II) Nisar Sarwar asked the Secretary, Ministry of Interior and Narcotics Control, to take necessary action on the request. The letter was issued following a communication from the Central Police Office, Punjab.

Under the request, 2G, 3G and 4G mobile services are to be jammed at specified locations in the Rawalpindi City area from 9:00am on September 27. The locations mentioned include Barahma Bahtar to M-1, Gango, Ahata, Taxila City, Wah Saddar, Thallian and Chakri. The department said the exact date and timing for some locations would be communicated separately.

For Attock district, the Home Department has sought downgrading of mobile and internet services throughout the district from September 27 onward.

The request has been forwarded to the Ministry of Interior for necessary action, with the Punjab Home Department seeking confirmation of the measures.

Copies of the communication have also been sent to the Punjab Inspector General of Police, Military Operations Directorate at GHQ Rawalpindi, Divisional Commissioner Rawalpindi, Regional Police Officer Rawalpindi, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, Headquarters 10 Corps and other senior civil and military authorities.

The proposed restrictions are part of security arrangements being made in the Rawalpindi region in view of an anticipated law-and-order situation.
