Los Angeles (Deadline) — January 30, 2026: Cameron Diaz and British actor-comedian Stephen Merchant have been confirmed as the lead stars of an upcoming romantic comedy backed by Amazon MGM Studios. The yet-to-be-titled film will be directed by Merchant, who also co-wrote the screenplay with John Butler.

According to project details, the story centers on a work-focused British hotel executive in New York who enters a fake marriage with a struggling stand-up comedian in need of health insurance. What begins as a practical arrangement gradually turns into an unexpected romantic connection.
The film is being produced by Lee Eisenberg and Point Grey Pictures, with Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver and Josh Fagen among the producers. Natalie Sandy will serve as executive producer. The project continues Amazon MGM’s collaboration with Point Grey, which has previously delivered successful series such as The Boys and Gen V.
