Sara Arjun to Play Madhubala in Upcoming Biopic Directed by Jasmeet K. Reen

Bollywood Actress Sara Arjun has been cast in the lead role of the iconic Madhubala in a biopic on the legendary Bollywood star’s life. The project is associated with filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, while Darlings director Jasmeet K. Reen will helm the film.
The biopic currently has no official title. Shooting is expected to begin in September once Bhansali wraps up production on Love & War. According to reports, the Madhubala film will utilise the same Mumbai locations, Royal Palms and Goregaon, currently being used for Love & War. After that film’s shoot concludes at the end of August, the production design team will transform the sets for the biopic.
Sara Arjun has already begun preparing for the role, focusing on Madhubala’s personality, mannerisms and the era in which the star lived. The film will recreate the life and times of one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated and beautiful actresses.
Further details about the screenplay and other cast members have not yet been revealed. Madhubala, who died in 1969 at the age of 36, enjoyed a career spanning 1942 to 1964. She starred in classics such as Mughal-e-Azam, Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi, Mr. & Mrs. 55 and Barsaat Ki Raat. Her portrayal of Anarkali in Mughal-e-Azam remains one of the most iconic performances in Indian film history.
