US to step up surveillance to prevent arms smuggling
United States: The United States (US) has reportedly claimed that it is strengthening its surveillance of Iran to prevent arms smuggling.
According to reports, the US Navy seized a large consignment of “assault rifles and ammunition” likely being smuggled from Iran and into war-ravaged Yemen.
According to reports of the US television and radio service CBS News, “U.S. Navy patrol ships discovered weapons aboard what the Navy described as a stainless steel fishing vessel in an operation”. The operation was reportedly carried out on Monday in the Arabian sea off Pakistan and Oman. Nearly 1,400 Kalashnikov-style rifles and 226,600 rounds of ammunition were recovered along with five Yemeni crew members.

The State Department said in a recent statement that the recent seizure of the Iranian arms and ammunition ship proved that the country was a supporter of terrorist groups in the region and supplied them with weapons and ammunition. Moreover, the United States has said it is blocking Iran’s supply of weapons to militant groups in the region.
According to the source, Iran is trying to create unrest in the region and make people’s lives miserable. The State Department says it has stepped up surveillance around Iran and is stepping up its crackdown on arms smuggling. So far, no comments have been made by Iran.

According to reports, the United Nations and the West have repeatedly accused Iran of smuggling “illicit weapons and technology” which is believed to be the cause of unrest and civil war in Saudi Arabia’s neighboring countries.
In what is considered to be an unusual move, the US Navy’s Bahrain-based 5th Fleet blamed Iran for its role in the transfer of weapons stating that the ship was sailing along a route, “historically used to traffic weapons unlawfully”. It added that the supply of weapons whether directly or indirectly is a violation of UN Security Council Resolutions and US sanctions.
