Moreover, according to reports, legal council for singer Ali Zafar questioned the nature of the relation between Meesha Shafi and Atif Aslam, questioning if the two are friends. Ali Zafar’s lawyer questioned if it was true that Atif Aslam was replaced as judge by Ali Zafar in the second season of Pepsi’s Battle of the Bands. To which Meesha Shafi’s manager, Farhan Ali replied, that it is true. Atif Aslam was in fact, in the first season meanwhile, Ali Zafar was in the second season.

It was further questioned if Shafi and her manager were aware of the switch in position. To which he responded that they had learnt of the change in judges through Saatchi & Saatchi, a British multinational communications and advertising agency network.

Moreover, the matter of Meesha Shafi’s post concerning her jamming session with Ali Zafar was highlighted. The post in question was deleted after allegations of sexual harassment were raised by the female musician. When Ali Zafar’s lawyer questioned the actions of Meesha Shafi in court, Farhan Ali refused to comment. He did however, mention that he was also present at the jamming session but he was not aware of any misconduct on the part of Ali Zafar. He went on to say that he was not aware of the social media post from Meesha Shafi’s side.

Moreover, the court questioned if Ali Zafar’s work had been affected following the allegations of abuse, to which Farhan Ali replied that Shafi’s work was also affected. In lieu of which, Ali Zafar’s legal council questioned, which multinational brands came into working association with Meesha Shafi? Is it true that after the allegations, Meesha Shafi was given a multinational brand job?

“Yes, that’s right, after the allegations, Meesha Shafi got the job of multinational brands”, said Farhan Ali.

“Didn’t Meesha Shafi tell a multinational company that if you raise money, I will work with Ali Zafar? Earlier, Shafi used to take less money, later she received more money from a multinational company”, argued Ali Zafar’s lawyer.

Farhan Ali responded to the above by saying that he can answer if a contract is placed before him. To which Ali Zafar’s lawyer argued, “Did other women accuse Ali Zafar of harassment?”. Farhan Ali responded that he does not know anyone personally. When asked if he knew that Hamna Raza had taken back her allegations, Farhan Ali deflected by saying that, he was not aware of it.

Given the situation, it is pertinent to consider if Atif Aslam is providing backing to Meesha Shafi against Ali Zafar. Especially more so, because the Court has raised this question, and he is close to Shafi based on the latter’s posts on social media. It is also pertinent to question if the #MeToo movement was planned for notorious reasons of commercial gain considering that Meesha Shafi has since been presented with various opportunities while Ali Zafar has been pushed back due to the allegations of sexually harassing his colleague.
