Explosion kills at least 16 in a mosque in Kandahar Afghanistan
15th October 2021: At least 16 people were killed and 32 injured as a result of explosion hitting a Shiite mosque amidst the Friday prayers in Kandahar province of Afghanistan.
The victims were reported by a doctor in Mirwais hospital, who preferred to remain anonymous for security reasons.
Qari Saeed Khosty, the spokesperson for the Taliban-run Interior Ministry, also confirmed the explosion on Twitter stating that a number of people died and many others were injured as a result of the tragic incident.
Last week, a bomb blast from a suicide bomber hit another Shiite mosque in Kunduz, a northern Afghan city during the Friday prayer, leaving at least 20 people dead and 90 others injured.
