Islamabad Emphasizes Maintaining Relations with Kabul Despite Differences
Munir Akram, Pakistan’s permanent representative at the United Nations, said that Islamabad is committed to maintaining relations with Kabul despite some differences. In an interview with an American media outlet, Akram said that Pakistan has consistently supported engagement with Afghanistan in international forums.
The Pakistani representative at the United Nations said: “Pakistan has a comprehensive policy towards Afghanistan. It will not abandon this country and will maintain its relations with the Taliban government. The existing challenges between Pakistan and Afghanistan can be resolved through other means, and this does not mean abandoning Afghanistan.”
Meanwhile, Suhail Shaheen, the head of the Islamic Emirate’s political office in Qatar, said that the interim government seeks positive relations with all neighboring countries, including Pakistan.
According to Shaheen, the challenges between Kabul and Islamabad should be resolved through diplomatic channels.
The head of the Islamic Emirate’s political office said: “The Islamic Emirate desires positive relations with all neighboring countries, including Pakistan, as good relations benefit all countries. The policy of the Islamic Emirate is balanced and focused on the economy.”
Some political and military analysts believe that good relations and positive engagement between Kabul and Islamabad are in the best interest of both countries.
“The solution to the challenges between the two countries is something that should be addressed under the supervision of the United Nations, as it can help resolve the issues between Afghanistan and Pakistan,” said Jannat Faheem Chakari, a political analyst.
“Problems should be resolved based on balance and global engagement, and this is the only good way to solve the issues,” said Abdulhadi Quraishi, a military analyst.
Earlier, Pakistani officials have repeatedly claimed that Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is present on Afghan soil; however, the Islamic Emirate has consistently denied this claim by Pakistan.
