ISLAMABAD (Baaghi TV/Arab News) — August 07, 2026: The federal government has reduced the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD), providing a modest relief to consumers amid continued volatility in international oil markets.
Under the latest revision, petrol has been cut by Rs3.19 per litre, bringing its price down to Rs329.82. The price of high-speed diesel has been reduced by Rs1.50, taking it to Rs382.36 per litre. The revised rates are effective from August 7.

The latest adjustment follows another round of changes under Pakistan’s newly introduced daily petroleum pricing mechanism. The system allows the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) to revise prices based on movements in international oil markets.
Fuel Prices Revised amid Market Volatility
The new rates mark another reversal in domestic fuel prices after the government had made changes to petrol and diesel rates a day earlier.
Pakistan’s new mechanism uses a seven-working-day average of international benchmark prices to determine domestic petroleum rates. OGRA publishes the revised ex-depot prices on working days, while weekend rates remain unchanged.
The government has said the system is intended to make petroleum pricing more transparent and allow international price movements to be reflected more quickly in the domestic market.

Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik previously said the mechanism would provide greater transparency in determining fuel prices and allow consumers to see the components contributing to the final rates.
Global Oil Prices remain Volatile
International crude prices have continued to fluctuate amid uncertainty surrounding regional tensions and potential disruptions to energy supplies.
Reports on Thursday indicated that Brent crude rose by more than $3 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate also recorded a significant increase during trading.
Dennis Kissler, senior vice-president of trading at BOK Financial, said: “Crude traders remain focused on the US-Iran agreements, and the longer the delays, the more prices will move higher.”
Movements in international crude prices remain particularly important for Pakistan because the country depends substantially on imported petroleum products.

Impact on Pakistan’s Economy
Changes in international oil prices can directly affect Pakistan’s import bill and transport costs, while higher fuel prices can also contribute to inflationary pressure.
Petroleum products are among the country’s major import categories, making domestic fuel prices sensitive to developments in global energy markets.

The daily pricing system was introduced as authorities sought to respond more quickly to sharp international price movements. Under the framework, changes in benchmark prices are reflected in domestic rates through OGRA’s pricing calculations rather than relying on the previous fixed-period review cycle.
For consumers, the latest reduction means a Rs3.19 per litre decrease in petrol and a Rs1.50 per litre reduction in HSD, although future rates could continue to change depending on international oil prices.
