Twenty-three-year-old Brooke George, from Gravesend in Kent, was arrested after the incident in Dubai and remains in custody while authorities continue their investigation. According to advocacy organisation Detained in Dubai, George has maintained that she acted in self-defence during an alleged violent assault by her partner. The organisation has urged authorities to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident as a potential case of domestic violence rather than focusing solely on the homicide allegation.
In a statement, the campaign group said George alleged she “feared for her life and, reaching for a kitchen knife within her grasp, acted in self-defence.”
The organisation has also raised concerns regarding her treatment while in custody, alleging she was questioned without immediate legal representation and calling for her to receive appropriate legal and consular assistance. UAE authorities have not publicly responded to those specific allegations.
George’s mother, Thereza George, described her daughter’s emotional condition shortly after the incident, saying: “I have never seen my daughter so frightened in my life. She was crying uncontrollably.” She added that she believed her daughter had been attempting to leave Dubai before the fatal confrontation.
