Cummins, Lyon Return as Australia Finalise XI for Third Ashes Test in Adelaide

Australia have confirmed their playing XI for the third Ashes Test against England at the Adelaide Oval, welcoming back captain Pat Cummins and veteran spinner Nathan Lyon as they look to seal the series.

Cummins and Lyon replace Michael Neser and Brendan Doggett in the only changes to the side that has given Australia a commanding 2-0 lead in the five-match series. The pink-ball Test begins on Thursday and is a crucial fixture in the ICC World Test Championship.

Despite being fit again, experienced opener Usman Khawaja remains sidelined as he continues his comeback from a back concern. Josh Inglis retains his place in the XI and will bat at No. 7, providing additional depth to the lower order.

Speaking in Adelaide on Tuesday, Cummins acknowledged Khawaja’s disappointment but praised his professionalism.

“He’s a real team man. He’ll do whatever the team needs,” Cummins said. “It’s not just Uzzie — Beau Webster has missed out, Neser is coming off a five-wicket haul, and Doggett played the first two Tests really well. There’s a disappointed group, but they’ve been fantastic around the squad.”

The Adelaide Test marks Cummins’ first Test appearance since facing the West Indies earlier this year, and the Australian skipper confirmed he is fully fit with no bowling restrictions.

“I’m good to go. I’ve been bowling at 100 percent for a while now,” Cummins said. “If I’d played in Brisbane, I might’ve had limited overs, but this week it’s just like any other Test.”

England, meanwhile, announced their XI on Monday, making one change with Josh Tongue replacing Gus Atkinson in the pace attack.

Despite Australia’s strong start to the series, Cummins has warned against complacency, stressing the need for a ruthless approach.
