The 35-year-old made her England debut in 2010 and leaves the international stage as the country’s most-capped women’s cricketer, with 320 appearances across all formats. Knight captained England in 199 international matches between 2016 and 2025, guiding the team to victory in the 2017 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup on home soil.

“I’m extremely grateful and privileged to have gone on the journey that I have been on as an England cricketer,” Knight said in a statement released by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
She added: “It’s hard to walk away because the dressing room and the people in the dressing room have been a constant in my life for 16 years… but I’m really content with this decision and I’m really excited for what’s next.”

Knight said the historic Test at Lord’s made her retirement especially meaningful.
“Growing up as a little girl from Devon and playing with the boys, I never thought I’d get to experience this. It feels right to leave the game with this historic Test at Lord’s.”
Her retirement comes just days after teammate Tammy Beaumont also announced that the Lord’s Test would be her final international appearance, marking the end of an era for England Women’s cricket. Both players were among the first recipients of professional central contracts in the women’s game and played key roles in England’s rise on the international stage.
ECB Managing Director for England Women’s Cricket Clare Connor paid tribute to Knight’s contribution, saying: “Heather’s contribution to England women’s cricket has been extraordinary. She has combined skill and determination as a player with exceptional leadership qualities, helping to shape this team and the game more broadly through one of the most significant periods in its history.”
